Since Gary Ross has decided not to return to direct Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire,
the producers have been looking round for a suitable candidate to fill
his very big shoes. It sounds like they might have found someone though
and it's being reported that the job has now been offered to Water For Elephants director Francis Lawrence.
After the runaway success of The Hunger Games, there's been a lot of
speculation about who production company Lionsgate would ask to take the
director's chair, but apparently the job has now been offered to
Francis.
With Jennifer Lawrence
already signed up to film a sequel to X-Men First Class next January,
filming needs to start in the autumn and with Francis at the helm,
production will be able to move forward as soon as possible.
Having cut his teeth on a variety of music videos for Britney and Green
Day, Francis also directed futuristic thriller I Am Legend, so we think
he'll do a pretty awesome job.
All the cast are signed up to return for the sequel so with a director
on board, it sounds like they're ready to get rolling. We are excited to
see who they pick to play the new characters that appear in Catching
Fire, especially the drop-dead gorgeous Finnick Odair..
